Eating & Drinking
Lagos, Luz and the surrounding area offer such a variety of places to eat and drink to suit any budget. We are still discovering new restaurants and bars everytime we visit, so here are a few of our favourites that you might like to try during your stay. Just a word of warning some restaurants close on Mondays and its worth booking ahead especially during the summer months.

Piri Piri Take-Away in Luz €
This is a great little take away about 5 minutes drive from the villa, we go here if we dont feel like eating out. Excellent chicken cooked with the local Piri-piri sauce, spare ribs and fries. Just order as many whole chickens as you need, popular with locals and tourists.
Situated at the end of a small row of shops in the square by the supermarket.
Mullens Bar & Restaurant in Lagos €€
Don't be fooled by the decor in here, the food is great. Quite simple fare and reasonably priced its popular with locals and tourists alike and the menu itself is worth coming for just to read! The bar is a real gathering place for some of the characters of Lagos, but they always make you feel very welcome. Situated on Candido dos Reis at the top on the hill opposite Casa, the home decor shop.
Maharaja in Lagos €€
If you love Indian food, you'll really enjoy the Maharaja. We normally have the take away, you can either call ahead or just pop in and they'll cook it on the spot. The portions are huge so one curry is big enough for 2 unless you have a big apetite. Excellent onion bahjis and naan bread. Situated on the hill going down into Lagos opposite the Bombeiros (Fire station)
Linda's Bar & Do Cais €€/€€€
Linda's bar is situated on Meia Praia beach, its a great place to come and have lunch summer or winter. Serving a wide range of excellent sandwiches & huge salads, or just come and have one of the exotic smoothies. Do Cais is situated at the marina and offers a similar menu during the day, then in the evenings it is slightly more expensive offering steaks and fish dishes with a lovely ambiance, especially during the winter months.
Boia Bar Salema €€/€€€
The pretty village of Salema is about 20 minutes drive from Casa Pomar, there are a couple of other good restaurants in the village (Atlantico) but we keep coming back to Boia. The food is fairly simple but always tasty, we come for the fish and huge prawns but they do offer meat on the menu as well. This is a lovely place either during the winter when you can sit inside or in the summer when everyone spills out onto the decked area to overlook the beach. It can get very busy so its worth booking +351 282 695382
Adega do Papagaio €€€
For something different try this restaurant in Espiche. If we are feeling energetic we take the 30 minute walk (take a torch for the return journey, which always seems much shorter after the huge jugs of sangria!) to the village. The food is as much as you can eat for €15 which includes starter and dessert, the catch is you have to cook your own main course on the stone on your table. Steak, chicken, lamb and pork served with rice, chips, salad and dips and if you time it right they have live Fado music. A great night out.
Duke of Holland Praia da Luz €€/€€€
Recently refurbished this lovely bar/restaurant offers a relaxed atmosphere and great food. We have eaten here on a number of occasions and never been disappointed, the piri piri prawns are excellent as is the chili con carne.
O Celeiro Almadena €€€
This restaurant was recommended to us and we love it. Its like stepping back in time, rustic, charming and the staff are so attentive. The appetizer alone is a large plate of the local flamed sausage, prawns, olives and bread, very often you wont need a starter. One of our favourite dishes is the roast lamb, which just melts served with home made mint sauce, there is always a large choice of desserts if you have room! Watch out for the complimentary glass of port- a perfect way to finish the evening. Turn right onto the EN125 from the villa, continue for about 10 minutes until you get to Almadena. At the lights turn left, then immediately right down a small road that runs parallel with the main road, O Celeiro is on your left.
No Patio Lagos €€€
Luckily for us we found this restaurant by accident, its owned and run by Martyn, an English chef, who has recently taken it over. He prides himself on the quality and presentation of the dishes and we have eaten there many times. Excellent steaks, fish dishes and homemade soups. Contrary to the name there is a lovely patio area, perfect for summer evenings.
Don Sebastiao Lagos €€€
In the old town of Lagos, Don Sebastiao is one of Lagos longest running restaurants and its easy to see why. Its not the cheapest place to eat by any means, but the service and quality of food is excellent. We often have a long leisurely lunch sat outside watching the world go by. Superb seafood and wine list make this definatly one for a special occasion.
Forteleza da Luz Praia da Luz €€€
Situated in a 16th Century Ford on a cliff overhanging the sea with magnificent views. The interior is elegant and classic, just the place to listen to live Portuguese Classic Guitar music on Thursdays. The outside terrace is a delight. The walled in garden completes the picture. A wide choice of dishes including daily fish specials, but be warned the portions are huge!
