Golf
Golf has been one of the main sporting attractions of the Algarve, Portugals southernmost province, for almost 3 decades. 24 beautifully tended golf courses, a friendly climate, a cosmopolitan culture all in a compact area steeped in history, and you have the ultimate in year-round golfing destinations. There are 4 golf courses within 10 minutes of Casa Pomar with the newly opened E125 bringing the other courses within easy reach.
Boa Vista

3 minutes from Casa Pomar headed East towards Lagos is the Boa Vista 18 hole championship golf course. Boavista Golf opened on 1st January 2002, the impressive 18 Hole Championship golf course has been designed by Howard Swan MSc, past president of The European Institute of Golf Course Architects.
With two distinctive sections the course offers a variety of holes commencing with the welcoming first hole, a meandering downhill par-4, bordered by beautiful sub-tropical landscaping leading to harmoniously designed properties.
The signature hole on the outward nine is the stunning par-4, 7th hole set against a glorious backdrop of the Atlantic ocean with exhilarating panoramic views extending from Praia da Luz round to with the hills at Monchique creating a spectacular backdrop.

Parque da Floresta
10 minutes from Casa Pomar headed West towards Sagres
this is the most westerly golf course in the Algarve.
Created by the renowned Spanish golf architect Pepe
Gancedo in 1985, Parque da Floresta is one of Europe's
most spectacular golf course. With no two holes remotely
similar, the variety and appeal of this unique course a
re endless, and one round will not be sufficient to appreciate
its imaginative design.
From the opening par 4 that curves gracefully towards
the
early morning sun, to the majestic par 4 eighteenth
set in a
natural amphitheatre below the Clubhouse
terrace, the
course has already become famous for
having some classic
golf holes; “The ‘Postage Stamp’
par 3 fifth of just 112
metres to the smallest of
bunker-surrounded greens makes
an accurate tee shot
essential.
The par 5 ninth ranks among
the most beautiful, stroke-index 1 holes ever designed,
where a solid drive followed by an accurate long iron are
required to position the ball for the approach to shoot to the green that towers above a deep gorge.
The picturesque, short par 3 eleventh - guarded on two sides by water - is one of the most inviting holes you could wish to play and is followed by a par 5 that leads up the "Valley of the Wells" to another elevated green. Having played along the "Lost Valley" of the new par 4 fourteenth, with its spectacular views to the village of Figueira and the sea, you are faced with the dramatic tee shot of the new par 3 fifteenth.
Here, on the tee, players are presented with an imposing view of a large, picturesque lake that has to be carried in order to reach the wide, but shallow, green.
Water again comes into play on the sixteenth and seventeenth where bold, yet accurate, tee shots will reap dividends for the brave, although both holes also prove rewarding to those golfers with higher handicaps.”
The Parque da Floresta also offers tennis, horse riding, archery and bowls. For more information please follow the link Parque da Floresta
Palmares
The course lies midway between Lagos and Portimao although the normal route for access is from Lagos town. It is about 15 minutes from Casa Pomar. With its spectacular views out over the Bay of Lagos, it combines links-style golf on the first 9 holes, with the second 9 being slightly more hilly.

The character of Palmares is heavily dictated by the terrain and it is a credit to the architect that the course is so loved.
The view from the first tee is a spectacular panorama across the Alvor lagoon and out to the shimmering ocean. The fairway drops away towards sea level and this par 4 dog leg can make a difficult start.
The next five holes are Scottish links but with sunshine. They are the kind of game which many visitors may feel at home with. After the sixth it's a climb back up the hill towards the club house.
From here the course assumes its other character and the holes thread their way across gentle hills and valleys between mature stands of pine. You are just starting to feel you have seen the course when the outstanding views from the 17th take your breath away.
Palmares is scenic, but it also has a calm mature atmosphere that many find at home with. Certainly, in its diversity there will be a hole which you will find to be your favourite. For more information please click on the link Palmares
